May 2021 Article

For the month of May, a few service events I completed were UNICEF Math Project, RiceRace and May DCM. For UNICEF Math Project, I answered math problems on their website which was then converted to money that is being donated straight to UNICEF. Answering math problems was so fun and I’d definitely do it again! Moving on, I did the RiceRace service where I had to download the app, make a penguin fly to collect some grains, and the grains are donated to a foodbank. These donations help provide meals for families in need. This service was also super fun! I was basically playing flappy bird! Furthermore, I attended May DCM where a lot of stuff happened. We started off with some club recaps and then a service where members made cards to express their kindness to a person they chose. During the service, there was also a karaoke session and wow it was wild! We sang Driver’s License, What Makes You Beautiful, and You Belong With Me and the amount of talent seen was immaculate. After, our LTG Katie Doan announced the new Division Leadership Team where many members from Bolsa Grande Key Club received a position! Congrats to everyone! We ended the DCM with Kahoot and it was so competitive! Despite AP Testing, this month was pretty eventful.

April 2021 Article

With the continuation of the pandemic, I have grown closer to Key Club than ever before. Finding community service while distantly learning from school has been arguably tough, however this club has offered numerous service opportunities to help the community at the comforts of our own homes. Personally, my favorite events include Freerice, Beanbeanbean, and Unicef math project. These websites/services allow you to answer a series of questions to donate to certain charities! In the recent months, and the numerous times I repeat these events, I realized how I am easily able to work on them. For example, while I watch a movie or talk with friends, I am able to pull up these websites on the side and conveniently contribute and gain service hours. The idea of these events being easily accessible at the hands of our phones or computers, motivates me to increase my support for charities. Recently, at the last meeting of the term, I was surprised to hear my name called for the member of the month award. I did not compete or compare to any of the other members of the previous month. This truly made me feel a part of the club, and I am thankful for that. I will never forget a club that values me more than just a member. We are otters together. :)) - Tommy Nguyen (2024)
